Whether you are trying to decide if a home based business is right for you or if you already have one there are three things you need to do. The first is research, the second is to pick the right course for you to follow, and the third, (this is the most important), is to follow an action plan.

The first is research. If you don't research what is out there then you cannot make an educated decision as to what you would like to do. There are numerous programs throughout the web that will show you how to succeed at a home-based business. The two most common ones are affiliate programs and the second is survey programs. I tend to lean towards the affiliate programs because you are truly your own boss where as survey programs are more like a job from home. You also need to make sure that the course is not a scam. You can do this by googling the name of the business your interested in and seeing the comments posted by people who have tried it. Not from the main web site! This leads us into our second key, to pick the right course for you.

Picking the right course is easy enough if you have a general idea as to what you want to do. Again the two biggest ones are affiliate and survey programs. The affiliate programs are designed to make you your own boss which means you work as little or as much as you want to. The Affiliate programs do more residual incomes. It takes a little more brainpower to be your own boss but most of them offer a great support system and step-by-step instructions on how to set your business up. I would suggest going with a course, as they don't cost that much to set up and they give you a great plan of action (are third key to success). The survey programs are more of a job from home. You go through and apply at company's to do surveys from them. When they select you then you fill out the survey you send it back in and eventually get paid on it. I personally do not have the patience to sit in front of computer all day filling out survey and another draw back is that you only get paid once on each survey.

The third key to success is to follow an action plan. That does not mean to read the steps your program gives you on how to start the ball rolling and then picking and choosing which you want to follow! These programs are designed for you to follow the action plan as it is laid out. If you don't follow the action plan then your failure rests only on your head. Most of these companies have spent many years perfecting the way to start your own business and if you think you can do it better then your better off going at it alone. I truly don't recommend this, as you'll most likely give up from sheer frustration before you really make any money.
